A graduate student team advised by Pamela Abshire, Michael Azarian and Michael Pecht has advanced to the final phase of the 2019 Qualcomm Innovation Fellowship (North America).

Varun Khemani (advised by Azarian and Pecht, CALCE/ENRE) and Jaime Campos (advised by Abshire, ECE/ISR) were selected for their project, “Reliability-Aware Circuit Design for Self-Diagnosis and Self-Prognosis in Deep Submicron Technologies.”

The Qualcomm program recognizes, rewards and mentors innovative Ph.D. students working in technical research areas including advanced semiconductor electronics; advances in communication techniques and theory; autonomous driving; machine learning; multimedia computing; processor architecture and implementation; secure system design; and semiconductor test, quality and yield learning.

More than 100 proposals are submitted each year and over $5 million dollars have been awarded since the program’s inception in 2009.

Khemani and Campos were one of 37 teams selected as finalists. Along with the other teams, they presented their proposal at Qualcomm headquarters in San Diego. They are awaiting the final results of the selection process.
