ISR graduate students Timir Datta and Ching L. Teo are members of two teams that have been selected as finalists in the annual Qualcomm Innovation Fellowship competition. The competition is focused on recognizing, rewarding, and mentoring innovative Ph.D. students across a broad range of technical research areas.

Datta is co-advised by Associate Professor Pamela Abshire (ECE/ISR) and ISR-affiliated Associate Professor Elisabeth Smela (ME) and is partnering with fellow ECE Ph.D. student Filiz Yesilkoy.

Teo is advised by ISR-affiliated Professor Yiannis Aloimonos (CS/UMIACS) and is working with fellow CS Ph.D. student Yezhou Yang.

The University of Maryland teams were two of 10 East Coast finalists. In addition to Maryland, four teams were selected from MIT, two from Rutgers, and two from Princeton. Qualcomm received a total of 146 applications for 33 finalist slots nationwide.

The East Coast Finals will be held at Qualcomm Research in Bridgewater, NJ on Tuesday, Apr 19. The student teams will be asked to deliver a 15 minute presentation describing their proposed research project. Eight winning teams will be announced by Qualcomm on May 15.

ISR wishes the best of luck to these teams!
