The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation has named ISR-affiliated Assistant Professor Patrick Kanold (Biology) a 2010-2011 Sloan Research Fellow. He is the only person in the state of Maryland to be so honored this year.

The Sloan Research Fellowships seek to stimulate fundamental research by early-career scientists and scholars of outstanding promise. The two-year fellowships are awarded annually to 118 researchers in recognition of distinguished performance and a unique potential to make substantial contributions to their field.

The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation is a philanthropic, not-for-profit grantmaking institution based in New York City. Established in 1934 by Alfred Pritchard Sloan Jr., then-President and Chief Executive Officer of the General Motors Corporation, the Foundation makes grants in support of original research and education in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and economic performance.
