William Herring, a Ph.D. student in the Applied Mathematics & Statistics, and Scientific Computation program working with Associate Professor Jeffrey Herrmann (ME/ISR), has been given a Seth Bonder Scholarship for Applied Operations Research in Health Services Honorable Mention. The honor was given for his paper, ?The Single-Day Surgery Scheduling Problem: A Model for Determining Optimal Block, Release and Request Queue Policies.?

The award was announced this month by the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS) Health Applications Section.

The Bonder Scholarship promotes the development and application of process modeling and operations research analyses to health care design, delivery and operations and supports the development of highly qualified individuals and promote the interchange of health services research knowledge in conjunction with INFORMS.
