On May 9, John Baras (ECE/ISR) and Huan Xu's (AE/ISR) capstone course ENES 489P "Hands-On Systems Engineering Projects" held its end-of-the-semester Undergraduate Systems Engineering Design Conference. Ten teams of undergraduate students from multiple engineering disciplines presented the results of their model-based systems engineering design projects. The presentations and projects were judged by a distinguished panel of industry professionals:

Judges:

Dan Rubel, Director of Engineering Services, Chief of Flight Safety, Textron Systems

Don York, Technical Fellow, Senior Systems Engineer, TASC, an Engility Corp.

Ved Gupta, Wheels Global Foundation

Sivi Eckhaus, Program Manager, Grier Forensics

The top three student teams were awarded prizes sponsored by Textron Systems and M.C. Dean.

The winners were:
First place ($1500): “Walking on Sunshine” Lily Burtness, Tyler DeGraw, Noelle Majorczak, Sean Rankin, and Lauren Sincavage

 

Second Place ($1,000): “Smart Stove Top Oven” Patrick Le, Jeremy Felder, Ibrahim Al-saud, Samantha Vermillion, Sandra Soltz

 

Third place ($500): Solar Search and Rescue UAV” Devon Cogan, Josh Goldberg, Josh Lehman, Ethan Pedoiem, Katelyn Walter

Mentors who attended the event included David Daily, M.C. Dean (Solar Sidewalk); Shalin Mody, Textron Systems (Search & Rescue Solar Drone); and Steve Sutton (Smart Classroom).


Other distinguished attendees included Ignazio Droghini, Managing Director, Loccioni USA; and Egidio Vitelli, Customer Care Manager, Loccioni USA.
