ISR Associate Research Scientist Raj Madhavan was recently interviewed by the IEEE Institute ("the IEEE news source") in his role as chair of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society's new Special Interest Group on Humanitarian Technology (RAS-SIGHT), and as a member of the overall SIGHT steering committee. The article, "Getting a Handle on Projects That Serve the Underserved," talks about IEEE's SIGHT initiative.

SIGHT "coordinates the activities of IEEE's various humanitarian efforts and makes them visible to a larger audience," says Satish Babu, chair of the SIGHT Steering Committee, which is responsible for approving new groups and monitoring their projects. "We want to foster collaboration among the groups?have them share information with each other as well as with nongovernmental and other organizations pursuing the same goals."

The RAS-SIGHT, which Madhavan chairs, was the first group to affiliate with the program back in September 2012.
