The IEEE has selected ISR-affiliated Associate Professor Min Wu (ECE/UMIACS) as the winner of its 2009 Mac Van Valkenburg Early Career Teaching Award. The award recognizes members of the IEEE Education Society who have made outstanding contributions to teaching unusually early in their professional careers. Winners are chosen on the basis of their teaching performance, development of new teaching methods, and curricular innovation in fields of interest to IEEE; the award symbolizes the highest quality of engineering education. The prestigious award is named after Mac Van Valkenburg, the late dean of the College of Engineering at University of Illinois who was a member of the National Academy of Engineering.

Wu was selected for her "outstanding contributions to undergraduate and graduate education in electrical and computer engineering, including innovative curricular development and influential mentoring." She will be presented with the award at the IEEE Frontiers in Education Conference in October.

In 2003, Wu received the University of Maryland?s George Corcoran Faculty Award for outstanding contribution to electrical engineering education and teaching. Her innovative curriculum development and course material have been incorporated by other colleagues worldwide into their teaching curricula. Graduate and undergraduate students whom she has mentored have won various research awards and prestigious fellowships.
