Professor Michael Ball (BMGT/ISR) will speak at the 36th Annual Short Course on Airport Systems Planning and Design. The program will be held at the University of California, Berkeley from Nov. 5-8. Ball is a co-director of NEXTOR, the National Center of Excellence for Aviation Operations Research, which is sponsoring the short course. The University of Maryland, along with Berkeley, MIT, George Mason University, and Virginia Tech, are university partners in NEXTOR. As the industry recovers from the difficulties of the past few years, airports are facing the challenges of meeting new security requirements while planning and implementing the necessary facility developments to handle the anticipated future traffic growth, in an environment in which airlines are striving to reduce their operating costs as much as possible. The four-day course covers the broad spectrum of airport planning and design issues within this evolving context. Ball is the Orkland Corporation Professor of Management Science and Director of Research for the Robert H. Smith School of Business.
