Marcel Pruessner, a graduate student in the MEMS Sensors and Actuators Laboratory, received a $15,000 ARCS Scholarship in a ceremony at the U.S. Supreme Court in October 2003. He joined two other Clark School of Engineering students, 15 other winners from area universities, University of Maryland President Dan Mote and Clark School professors in meeting Justice Anthony Kennedy, their host for the evening.
The awards are sponsored by the Metropolitan Washington Chapter of the ARCS (Achievement Rewards for College Scientists) Foundation, Inc.
Pruessner's research focuses on optical switching and III-V MEMS. He is advised by Assistant Professor Reza Ghodssi (ECE/ISR) who also attended, and notes that as an added bonus, "Marcel's first generation of Optical MEMS Switches worked for the first time" that very week.
