Professor Michael Ball (Robert H. Smith School of Business/ISR) was recently quoted in a story about airline mergers in the Newark Star-Ledger. In the story, Ball said the objective of a merger is to produce a more efficient carrier. "Overall, I think it will be a positive effect. The carriers will be more healthy and will be able to reduce their costs," he said. "Even with two or three mergers, there will still be healthy competition." Ball is co-director of NEXTOR, the National Center of Excellence for Aviation Operations Research.
