ISR Senior Research Scientist Stuart Milner is the advisor to the "Innovations" Gemstone team, which designed a lightweight, portable and inexpensive miniature dryer that can quickly dry single items of clothing. The dryer takes advantage of natural convection and has no moving parts. In addition, their handheld computer interface uses zooming animation and has outperformed Windows Mobile 2003 in user tests.

Gemstone is a multi-disciplinary undergraduated honors program in which students from different disciplines work together on a four-year research project with both technological and societal implications.
